DIY: HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE FIRE EXTINGUISHER

on fireHere is a cool little project- how to make a homemade fire extinguisher with simple household items.

This extinguisher should be effective on regular fires, including grease and electrical fires. It will give you a forceful spray few seconds that should be able to put out small fires.

What You Will Need:

Equipment:

  1. An empty plastic water bottle
  2. Toilet paper
  3. A drill

Ingredients:

  1. Water
  2. Vinegar
  3. Baking soda
  4. Liquid soap

 Putting It Together:

  1. Remove the cap from the water bottle.
  2. Drill a hole into the center of the cap.
  3. Fill the water bottle with vinegar, to about 1/3rd of capacity.
  4. Fill the water bottle with water, to about 2/3rd of capacity.
  5. Add 4 tablespoons of liquid soap to the water bottle.
  6. Separate 2 squares of toilet paper from the roll.
  7. Pour 2 tablespoons of baking soda onto the toilet paper.
  8. Roll the toilet paper into a thin tube that is filled with baking soda. Pinch the ends, and fold it in half.
  9. Twist the end of folded toilet paper into a point.
  10. Push the twisted part of the toilet paper into the hole of the water bottle cap.
  11. Ease the folded toilet paper tube into the opening of the water bottle. Get it in all the way so that you can screw on the cap.
  12. The toilet paper tube should hang down from the top of the water bottle, but not touch the liquid inside.

How to Use It:

  1. Push the top of the twisted toilet paper down, so that it falls into the water bottle.
  2. Cover the cap with your thumb and shake vigorously.
  3. Point the water bottle to the base of the fire.

A strong stream of fire extinguisher should spray out of the bottle for a few seconds.

Caution!

This design is meant to be a fun experiment, or a back up plan to deal with small fires. You should always have an ABC fire extinguisher on hand, even if the chances of a fire breaking out are relatively low.

Whenever faced with fire, contact emergency services immediately.

Good luck and stay prepared!
