HOW TO MAKE A HOMEMADE BREAD: A RECIPE OF AWESOME

This article is a guide to making your own homemade bread. Homemade bread tastes better than store bought bread, and is much more natural.

Why does store bought bread suck?

With homemade bread, you know what you are getting. With store bought bread… not so much. I mean, do you know what SODIUM STEAROYL LACTYLATE or ETHOXYLATED MONO AND DIGLYCERIDES are? Me neither. Store bough bread is filled with preservatives that allow it to last on the shelf longer. And these are probably not so good for you.

So let’s look at what it takes to make homemade bread. It’s less than you think.

Estimated Time: 3 hours

BreadWHAT YOU’LL NEED:

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 cup of milk
  2. 1 teaspoon of salt
  3. 5 teaspoons of sugar
  4. 3 cups of flour
  5. 5 teaspoons of butter
  6. 1 serving of active dry yeast
  7. (optional) corn starch or cooking spray to prevent sticking

Equipment:

  1. 2 large mixing bowls
  2. A large wooden spoon
  3. A measuring cup
  4. A measuring spoon
  5. A bread pan or some kind of mold
  6. A dry dish cloth

HOW TO DO IT:

  1. Warm up one of your bowls by running it under hot water for a minute.
  2. Add to the yeast to the bowl, following the directions on the package (usually this means adding warm water and stirring). Stir until you are left with a uniform liquid.
  3. Use a microwave to melt 5 teaspoons of butter. Add the butter to the bowl.
  4. Add a 1/2 cup of milk to the bowl.
  5. Add 5 teaspoons of sugar to the bowl.
  6. Add 1 teaspoon of salt.
  7. Stir the contents of the bowl until the liquid becomes uniform.
  8. Add 2 cups of flour to the bowl.
  9. Stir the contents of the bowl for 1 minute.
  10. Add a 1/4 cup of flour to the bowl. Stir for 1 minute.
  11. Repeat step #10 until all the flour has been poured into the bowl. You should be left with a ball of dough.
  12. Lightly sprinkle some flour onto an area of a table or counter that you will use for kneading.
  13. Take the dough out of the bowl, and place it on the flour-covered surface area.
  14. Now for some fun: Beat, punch, flatten, fold, squeeze and twist the dough for 10 minutes.
  15. After 10 minutes, shape the dough into a ball.
  16. Take out your second bowl. If you have corn starch or cooking spray, use it now to lightly coat the inside of the bowl (this step is optional, will help the bread not to stick).
  17. Put the ball of dough into the bowl.
  18. Put the dish cloth over the bowl, and let it sit some place warm for one hour. The dough will rise, growing to up to double in size.
  19. Punch the dough down, and then lay it on the floured surface area.
  20. Shape the dough into a rectangle, one side being the length of the bread pan, one side being 1.5 the length of the bread pan (1 Length X 1.5 Lengths).
  21. Roll the dough up, in a shape so that it fills up the bread pan.
  22. Spray the bread pan with cooking spray or corn starch (optional)
  23. Put the dough inside of the pan.
  24. Cover the pan with the dry cloth, and let it sit in a warm place for another hour. It will raise again.
  25. Put the pan in the oven at 400 F (200 C) for 30 minutes.
  26. Remove the pan from the oven, and let it cool completely.

You now have a homemade, awesome-tasting loaf of bread!

Good luck and stay prepared!
